Let’s be honest: I’m not naturally a morning person. If you told teenage me that one day I’d wake up at 6am willingly, I’d have rolled over and hit snooze without even making eye contact. But here I am – bright-eyed, bushy-tailed (ish), and actually enjoying my 6am morning routine. Who even am I?

So, if you’re curious about my 6 am morning routine, here’s how it goes down. Spoiler alert: It involves a lot of water, a little bit of faffing, and just enough routine to feel like I’ve got my life together.
Alarm at 6 am
I try to keep my wake up routine consistent – my alarm at 6 am buzzes me out of dreamland (usually mid-dream about my next staycation). After squinting at my phone and muttering something incoherent, I’m upright-ish.
I’m not going to lie, but 6am in the morning can feel brutal when you’ve had a gym session or stayed up too late watching Netflix or the latest features on the YouTube Experience. But we move.
First Thing – Hydrate!
First thing, I reach for a big glass of water. It’s my one non-negotiable. I’ve read somewhere (probably on Pinterest during a 2am scroll) that starting your day with water helps kick-start your metabolism, clears the brain fog, and basically turns you into Beyoncé. Worth it.

My Healthy Morning Routine
After rehydrating, I swap scrolling social media for ten minutes of gentle stretching and breathing. I do 15 minutes – nothing dramatic, just a few yoga poses or simple stretches to wake up my body and get the blood flowing – just enough to feel like I’m doing something positive for my body. There are plenty of videos ready for you to start on YouTube Experience. This part of my healthy morning routine sets the tone for a productive day.
My Morning Routine
I follow a loose morning routine schedule because structure keeps me sane – but I leave enough flexibility to press pause if needed. Life’s not a Pinterest board, after all. This flexibility is key, allowing me to adapt my routine to different days and situations, and I encourage you to do the same, empowering you to create a routine that fits your unique life.
A typical hour might look like this:
- 6:00am – Alarm & water
- 6:15am – Stretch or light yoga
- 6:30am – Shower (usually while singing 00s bangers)
- 6:45am – Coffee break or breakfast
- 7:00am – Journal, read a book or plan my day
Self Care Morning Routine
I like to think of it as a self care morning routine rather than just ticking boxes. That means taking a few minutes for skincare, choosing an outfit that makes me feel good, and playing some music that lifts the mood. It’s less about perfection and more about showing up for yourself.
My 6am Morning Routine = Sanity Saver
Honestly, my 6am morning routine has changed the game. It gives me a sense of calm before the chaos of emails, calls, and real life begins. I used to roll out of bed and into work mode, but that left me frazzled and reactive. Now, I feel more in control and way more balanced. You should give it a try and experience the same benefits, inspiring you to take control of your mornings and set a positive tone for your day.
Morning Routine List
Here’s my ultimate morning routine list (ideal world version, not the “I woke up 15 minutes before a Zoom call” version):
- Wake with alarm at 6am
- Drink water
- Light movement/stretch
- Shower
- Eat something nourishing
- Plan the day
- Journal or read for 10 mins
- Be kind to myself (even if I don’t get it all done)
Optimal Morning Routine Vibes
This is my take on an optimal morning routine – one that sets the vibe, keeps me grounded, and doesn’t involve running around like a headless chicken. I’m not saying this is the holy grail of routines, but it works for me (most days).
How is Your Morning Routine?
So… how is your morning routine? Are you a sunrise smoothie-and-meditation type, or more of a panic-coffee-grab-and-go legend? Either way, there’s no “one size fits all.” The best my morning routines are the ones that fit your life and your energy – not someone else’s curated Insta version.
Longer Supported Energy
Since adopting this routine, I’ve noticed I have more sustained energy throughout the day- like I’m being longer supported rather than crashing by 3pm and reaching for my fifth coffee. Just me? Instead, I power through meetings, blog writing (hi!), and adulting with a bit more pep in my step.
Success Isn’t Always 5am Club
This isn’t about perfection or becoming a robot. But having a successful morning routine, even if it’s only 30 minutes, has made a real difference in how I show up in my work, my relationships, and my mood. And that’s the kind of healthy, happy glow-up I’m here for.
A Bit About Sleep
And yes, I know what you’re thinking: “You wake up at 6am?! What about sleep?” Fair point. I’ve made peace with being in bed by 10pm (okay, 10:30 after scrolling updates I absolutely didn’t need to read). Rest matters – big time.

Tech, Tweaks, and Time to Breathe
Let’s not forget that we’re in the era of the 2025 Google lifestyle – tech is smarter, sleep tracking is a thing, and apps try to optimise your life. I’ve even tried the latest features in sleep apps to fine-tune my wake-up window (although I still like a good old alarm clock). It helps keep me grounded and focused.
How do you handle days when you struggle to stick to your routine?
On the days when sticking to my routine feels like climbing Everest in flip-flops, I try not to be too hard on myself. Life happens – late nights, bad sleep, unexpected plans – and some mornings just don’t go to plan. Instead of scrapping the day entirely, I scale it back. Maybe I skip the full workout and just stretch for five minutes, or I swap journaling for simply sitting quietly with my coffee. I remind myself that a routine is meant to support me, not stress me out. Some days, just brushing my teeth and getting dressed before midday is the win – and that’s okay.
Morning Routine 6am
amSo, that’s my ramble on building a doable, positive, feel-good early morning routine. No cold plunges, no miracle hacks – just some intention, time, and a bit of breakfast joy. If you’ve been thinking about tweaking your own routine, start with just one small change and build from there.
Let me know if you give it a try – and remember, no one has it together 100% of the time. Not even morning people.
